Fotona Pico FracTat™ Laser Tattoo Removal
Calgary’s Gold Standard in Tattoo Removal
Fotona Starwalker’s proprietary Pico FractTat™ technology make it an industry leading tattoo laser system, combining the best of the best in laser tattoo technologies….. Pico + Nano plus an ablative fractional laser that safely allows for additional passes in a single treatment.
This unique combination of high peak power picosecond micropulses within an overall nanosecond high energy macropulse provides increased efficacy, faster healing and fewer treatments! By using larger spot sizes at very high energy, deeper lying pigment can be reached, significantly enhancing the laser treatment efficacy and efficiency in a single session.*
When lasers are used to treat tattoos, the laser pulse strikes the tattoo pigment creating steam and gas that becomes trapped within the skin. This causes what is often referred to as “frosting” which prevents subsequent laser pulses from reaching the deeper pigment. In addition, the trapped gas can cause scarring and damage to the surrounding tissue.
The patented Pico Fractat™ technology prevents frosting from occurring. After the first pass of Pico MaQX, the innovative Fractat treatment uses an ablative fractional laser to drill micro holes into the skin. These micro holes act as pressure relief ducts which enable the steam and gas created from the first and subsequent passes to escapes without causing damage. This allows for a very short waiting time between multiple passes and enables the laser to reach deeper lying pigment which can significantly reduce the typical number of treatments required.*

FAQ
HOW ARE TATTOOS REMOVED?
Medical Pico lasers have an even shorter wavelength than the nanolasers, consisting of a high energy train of ultra-short bursts of energy in trillionths of a second. This in turn enables the photomechanical impact to shatter tiny skin targets without injury to the surrounding.
The laser light is able to target precisely at the uppermost layer, at the same time penetrate into the deepest structures of the skin. Short bursts of high-energy laser can break apart unwanted particles until they become as fine as dust, which will eventually be removed from the body.
Powerful bursts of laser energy that photoacoustically break apart skin pigmentations into ultrafine particles that are easily eliminated. The body will respond by moving fluid to the area to help flush away the particles. This process generally takes a few weeks. The larger the tattoo, the more sessions it will take to break down the ink particles.*
WHAT WILL MY SKIN LOOK LIKE AFTER TREATMENT?
Immediately after your treatment, your skin in the area of the tatoo will be red,and appear swollen. This is normal and will disappear slowly over time. Results may take about 5 weeks after each treatment. Immediately after treatment, antibacterial ointment and gauze will be applied to the treated area to minimize infection.*
ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?
Occasionally, a whitening of the skin may occur. However, normal skin tone may return within 6 -12 months following your last treatment session. Since the ink used in tattooing can vary from tattoo to tattoo, some patients have only partial clearing even after several sessions.*
TATTOO REMOVAL OPTIONS
Before the advent of the medical laser, common techniques included cryosurgery, dermabrasion or excision. These methods can be painful and may often result in scarring. Laser treatments are safer. They are minimally invasive and only target the ink used in the tattoo process. Lasers are now the modern standard for tattoo removal, specifically the Pico laser.
WHAT IS THE TREATMENT LIKE?
Some patients say they feel a slight sting, like the snap of a rubber band on the skin. While many treatments do not require anesthetics, some patients feel more comfortable with a local numbing agent, such as a topical anesthetic.*
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
The number of treatments required for optimal results depends on the size, location, depth and color of the tattoo. Treatment should be performed 4 – 8 weeks apart in order to allow the body to remove the maximum amount of tattoo pigment after each treatment.*
Each session usually takes 10 – 30 minutes. You may continue to see lightening of your tattoo after each treatment as your body disposes of more pigment. Most patients will see improvement in their tattoos and results can be quite dramatic.*
